INTRODUCING THE FLX003

新たな視点 (Aratana Shiten) – a new perspective.

Sometimes, even the smallest change can shift how we see something. I experienced this firsthand with the Omega Seamaster 300 (ref. 165.024) from the 1960s. At first, its bold design – from the large bezel markings to the prominent hour plots – felt like a stark contrast to the elegant and refined CK2913, its older, more delicate sister.

Unlike the CK2913, which I saw as perfectly designed, the 165.024 initially struck me as almost brutish. Yet, I soon realized this boldness served a purpose: when diving in deep waters, you want a tool that stands out, and that’s where "form follows function" comes in.

Much like how the Tuthill Porsche GT One and MIM Design Studio architectural masterpieces marry form with function, after coming across the Seamaster 300 Big Triangle (165.024), it hit me like a ton of bricks. A new perspective.

INSPIRATION

The Omega Seamaster 300 Big Triangle (SM300BT) has its origins in the 1960s when it was commissioned by the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) for use in the field. The MOD required a reliable, highly legible dive watch for its personnel, and the Seamaster 300 was selected for its robust design and exceptional underwater performance. The distinctive Big Triangle at 12 o'clock was introduced to ensure that time could be read quickly and accurately, even in low-light conditions. This feature made the SM300BT a trusted tool for military divers and this design trickled down to the consumer market shortly after.

The Seamaster 300 Big Triangle had a very short production run from 1967 to 1970 and while they are not exceedingly rare, the Big Triangle with a no-date dial definitely is. Over the last 57 years, the SM300BT iconic design has achieved grail status amongst collectors...

THE FLX003

With the Fleux FLX003, we've preserved the essence of this iconic watch, while incorporating subtle changes that enhance the original design - chief among them, new broad arrow hands.

The broad arrow hands were first introduced on the CK2913 and originally designed for an MOD design specification made to reflect British military heritage and enhanced readability.

The BT dial and broad arrow hands are housed within our rugged 316L stainless steel skin diver case which houses the reliable SII (Seiko) NH38A movement - no ghost date to be found here and specified to be made in Japan to ensure our strict quality standards.

The bezel insert is milled from a solid block of aluminum and like the FLX001, features the useful, yet exceedingly (and puzzling) rare countdown bezel.

Designed as a reliable tool for both diving and everyday wear, the Fleux FLX003 is more than just a watch; it's a nod to a piece of horological history, designed for those who appreciate the legacy of the Seamaster 300 and its role in military, diving and horological history.
